Sermon:

This Sunday we will be going through the entire book of Philemon.

This letter is written by Paul and Timothy to their Christian friend Philemon. They are writing on account of Philemon’s bondservant, Onesimus, who ran away and is now marked as a fugitive, but wound up in Rome where he met Paul and also became a Christian. Though the circumstance was left messy between these two believers, Paul is hopeful that the gospel can be portrayed in their reconciliation. Paul writes to Philemon about his desire to see their relationship restored and for Philemon to see the true transformation of Onesimus.

“The theme of Philemon is the power of the gospel to transform lives (‘formerly he was useless’ but ‘ now he is indeed useful,’ v. 11) and to impact human relationships (receive him ‘no longer as a bondservant [or slave] but more than a bondservant, as a beloved brother,’ v.16).” (ESV Study Bible)

Prayer:

This week we ask you to pray unity over our community at The Well. We pray that as brothers and sisters in Christ, we would grow to further understand how the Lord delights in the variety of his creation, and how the gospel is the power by which the most differing of believers can love one another.
