Sermon:

This Sunday we will be discussing the prayer of Jacob in Genesis 32:22-29.

If you have a little extra time this week, take a look at Genesis 27:1-38. You may find the passage to be a familiar one if you grew up in church. It’s the story of how Jacob stole the blessing of his brother Esau and it gives some insight into the passage we’ll be looking at on Sunday. Consider the emotions you might feel if you were in Jacob’s shoes. Imagine what it must have been like to live everyday knowing that you were benefitting from cheating your brother.  What guilt he must have felt after all those years apart from the brother he had so deeply wronged. Now imagine how he must have felt when he realized that his brother was headed right for him…with 400 men at his back. Jacob’s past was just about to catch up with him.

Prayer:

This week we pray that The Well would grow in being distinct from the world in love and holiness, even as it engages outsiders. (Romans 12:1-2, 9-18)
